Nov 02More than 2 million children are estimated to have died as a direct result of conflict over the past decade. Thousands of children worldwide have no place to go and no one to turn to during times of conflict. Many are displaced, suffer from poverty and stripped of their homes. More than 6 million children have been seriously injured or permanently disabled as a result of the impacts of war.
War creates devastating and life-long physical and emotional trauma in the lives of innocent children by wars they have not started and cannot end. These children are denied their basic rights and are denied the chance to go to school and live peaceful lives surrounded by family.
Empower children affected by war by supporting War Child’s vision of a world where no child knows war. War Child is committed to providing children who are affected by war sustainable opportunities through the help of local partners giving them access to education, equipping them with job training and protecting their legal rights.
The goal of the project is to provide young people with a safe environment where they will be able to develop skills and realize their potential so that they can become active participants in their communities and be the peacemakers of their generation.
Another program that War Child has created is dedicated to making sustainable and meaningful impact in the lives of child-headed families affected by the AIDS virus in Ethiopia. Together with their local partner, War Child is providing education, training and access to health services to hundreds of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
This support goes far beyond providing the basic needs of food and shelter. Children who head households are provided with education and vocational training, while their younger siblings are given the necessary resources to go to school. During the training, support is provided to the household. This support allows them access to quality health care, psychosocial support, recreational programs and basic necessities. These young people also participate in peer support groups. Within these groups they build leadership skills and self-confidence, and share their knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues with other community members.
By providing children with the basic necessities they need during times of war, they feel safe and strive to make a difference in their own lives while giving back to their communities. Equipped with the confidence and support they need to make a positive impact, War Child’s programs make realizing peaceful futures in the lives of children affected by war, a reality.
Children who suffer at the hands of war, benefit from War Child’s sustainable programs and efforts in providing safe havens for youth.
Children suffering from the HIV/AIDS virus are able to receive adequate medical assistance and are able to pass on the knowledge and training to benefit others.
Helping these children and providing programs that increase self-esteem, offer security and support by empowering them and giving them a future that they can look forward to.
