About This Cause

Need

Domestic violence against women and children exacts a terrible toll. Thousands of Canadian women and children are affected each year. This abuse has long-term physical, emotional and psychological effects, including the increased risk of substance abuse and suicide, not only for women but also for their children.

Solution

Your help can provide the needed supports to help women and children of abuse receive counselling, advocacy, parenting workshops, legal help, housing support and employment training so they can help break the cycle of violence.

Impact

Provides women who have been abused with safe shelter and programs that will help them and their children to begin a new life safe from danger.

The drop-in centre at Sistering - A Woman's Place is a warm and welcoming place. There, homeless and low-income women can take shelter, have a nutritious meal, make phone calls, have a shower and do some laundry-things most people take for granted.
