Kids Up Front is a charitable organization that provides access to arts, culture, sports and recreation to kids who otherwise would not have the opportunity. Kids Up Front achieves this by distributing unused event tickets and by creating special events to help heal, bond and unite. Kids Up Front's 2009 Partner Agency Survey, indicates that children participating in Can't Use Your Ticket? and Kids Count! show positive increases in personal skills development, such as self-esteem, relationships, and family bonding.
The project focuses on kids under 19 years with multi-barriers and challenges, including children: living in poverty; new to Canada; from a minority group; experiencing terminal and/or chronic illness; mental, emotional, physical difficulties; and/or at-risk behaviours. The Weiss et al. study observes that "youth's constructive use of their out of school time is a protective factor that has been associated with (1) academic achievement;(2) a stronger self-image;(3) positive social development;(4) reductions in risk-taking behaviour; and (5) better school behaviour and fewer absences”. All the money raised provides life-changing experiences for thousands of kids.
