To raise awareness of the issue of homelessness, monetary donations for local charities around the country, and help change the image of business students.
Founded in 2005 by students from the School of Business at the University of Alberta, Five Days for the Homeless is a five day campaign in which university students live "homeless" on their campus to raise money and awareness for a local charity.
During the five day campaign students from across the country will be making personal sacrifices to make their community a better place. Students forgo their comforts, and live outside, effectively homeless, on their respective campus for five full days and nights.
The campaign is fairly simple. The participants will:
1. Remain on campus for 5 days.
2. Have no income.
3. Have no food or drinks. Only direct donations allowed.
4. Have only a pillow and a sleeping bag
5. Have no access to showers or facilities their student status would usually grant them access. Washrooms can only be accessed when campus is open.
6. Sleep outside. Only exception is if inclement weather becomes a health risk
7. Attend all classes
8. Avoid personal medium communications. Encouraged to have one cell phone for safety purposes.
9. Write about their experiences.
